It sounds like a contradiction. It is not. An asset can be the cheapest it has been in 10 years and, at the same time, go through a cycle that no longer looks like the textbook. That is where both the opportunity and the trap sit.

The market anticipates exactly what everyone else anticipates. The move that matters, the bottom or the top, arrives earlier every cycle, precisely so it catches the majority on the wrong foot. That is why the calendar everyone waits for is so often the trap itself.

The thesis

There are two kinds of very good investors. One, the Warren Buffett type, uses time and buys asset classes that have reached maturity, the ones where he can read a future. The other hunts asymmetric bets: things that are very cheap, that the world does not understand yet, like a rare painting found in a derelict house.

By that logic, crypto is the second case. After four years of downtrend on the speculative side, it is the most undervalued asset class in 10 years. The reason is human. Most of the people who held it, starting with Bitcoin, never knew what they were holding. They wanted fast money, they went looking for the rare painting across hundreds of projects, and most of those were not rare at all.

Not everything cheap is worth buying. The derelict house is full of junk: thousands of coins and projects that wanted to change the world and changed nothing. That is why the order matters. Bitcoin first, then Ethereum, and only after that the rest of the list, in small percentages. Everything else is noise.

The undervaluation does not show up well in dollars, which lose value anyway. It shows up when you measure in something old and hard to produce. Between states the game is simple: whoever holds more gold holds more trust. Measured in gold instead of dollars, Bitcoin sits in a long consolidation, right before an expansion.

$466 billionTotal crypto market cap today. It grew from around 20 billion to 171 billion, then to 466, with aggressive bears in between. Undervalued does not mean it stops dropping along the way.

Bitcoin divided by the price of gold, log scale. It climbed from under one ounce to 36, and since 2025 it has halved, to around 16. A long consolidation against gold, not a collapse.

If it is that undervalued, why is it not already climbing in a straight line? Because the cycle that used to deliver those gains has changed.

The cycle

The four year cycle has broken

Three cycles in a row looked the same: a blow-off top, a vertical rise where you never got to buy a single pullback, then an aggressive bear. 2013, 2017, 2021. This time, none of it.

There was no blow-off top. There were wide distribution ranges instead. The peak arrived far earlier than the halving would suggest, in October 2025, and the last quarter of the bull year, the one everyone expected to be explosive, turned out to be the first negative fourth quarter in crypto history.

The market changes precisely to upset what most people believe. That is what the market does to people.

Two things shift at the same time. The return: from 112x to 8x, cycle after cycle. And the timing: the move that matters keeps arriving earlier. Both of them fool anyone still waiting for the old pattern.

The consensus conclusion is always the same. If returns are shrinking, the next cycle does 2-3x, it is no longer worth it, time to leave. That reflex is exactly the one the market punishes, because the good part of the move shifted earlier, it did not disappear.

Where we actually are

The consensus is waiting for a bottom in Q4 2026, somewhere around 29,000 to 31,000. Except October has never been the month a bottom was put in. Confirmation always came in the January after the bear year: 2015, 2019, 2023. And when the move front-runs, the bottom is already in or very close, not a year out.

To see where you are, you look left. Every bear in Bitcoin's history ended the same way: a bottom, an accumulation zone, then a new cycle, higher. The zone that matters was flagged in advance, as a fixed target: 57,700, a level hit exactly. Should it give way, the bottom can slide between 51,000 and 54,000. Not a magic price. A zone you accumulate across, rather than a point you try to hit.

The 57,700 target was hit exactly. Even so, it may not be the bottom. That is why you accumulate across a zone.

There is a reassuring sign underneath as well. This drawdown is gentler than the ones before it: around 53%, against 77% to 85% in earlier bears. The bear is maturing, it is not weakening. Each cycle hurts less than the one before.

As for targets, after a conservative stance all through the last bull, the thesis has changed here too. A new high before the halving, toward the summer of 2027, somewhere around 140,000 to 190,000. And further out, numbers that sound absurd today, up toward 500,000. But the target is the second question. The first one is where and how you accumulate.

The real risk is not another 10% down. It is sitting on the sidelines, waiting for a date on the calendar that no longer arrives when you expect it.

Bitcoin is the leader. But this time it does not set off alone.

Ethereum

The second piece and the rest of the list

For the first time, the plan is no longer 80% Bitcoin with everything else as an extra. Ethereum has moved up to a main position, next to Bitcoin. The reason: it never got the expansion it usually has in the year after the halving. Unspent energy, so a good zone for re-accumulation, below 2,000 dollars.

The rest of the altcoins stay last on the list. Last season was never a classic alt season. It was selective and atypical. The big altcoin outperformance looks pushed out toward 2027-2028. The iron rule holds: without Bitcoin as the majority of the portfolio, you do not touch a single altcoin.

Bitcoin first, Ethereum second, then the list, in small percentages. Not the other way around.

Re-accumulation happens methodically, in steps, never in one go. Bitcoin and Ethereum are the main portfolio, and new money goes to them instead of dozens of speculative coins. For speculation there is a small slice left, under 10%, kept separate. Discipline, not enthusiasm.

It is a distinction of mindset, not of trade: the trader works for money, the investor puts money to work. In an undervalued asset class, time works for you, but only while you stay positioned with a plan.

We do not position on headlines or on a date in the calendar. We position on structure and on the cycle.

On Bitcoin we accumulate in the $51k-$58k zone, in steps, keeping ammunition for a second tranche toward 51,000 to 54,000. We do not hunt the exact low. What counts is the average entry, not the last dollar.

On Ethereum, methodical re-accumulation below 2,000, again in steps. Bitcoin and Ethereum are the main portfolio, and speculation stays a small slice, kept separate.

We measure in gold too, not only in dollars. A pause in dollars does not break the thesis as long as the expansion against gold follows.

What would change the plan: a monthly close clearly below the structure zone, not a single red day. While the structure holds on the higher timeframe, we stay positioned.

One reflex remains. Do not confuse undervalued with going up tomorrow, or the cycle has changed with the cycle is over.

Crypto is the most undervalued asset class in 10 years, but it only pays the people who stay positioned through a cycle that no longer looks like the textbook. You accumulate in steps, you measure in gold as well as dollars, and you watch the structure instead of a date on the calendar.
