Bitcoin jumps past the floor, Ethereum climbs even more

Last week I showed a decline band for Bitcoin, between 51,000 and 55,000 dollars. Bitcoin never touched it. It rallied 22.8% straight to the first resistance, and Ethereum went even further.

Short selling

A bet that an asset's price will fall. The investor borrows the asset, sells it now, then buys it back cheaper to return it, and the difference is the profit. It's the opposite of a normal buy position, and it's riskier, because the theoretical loss has no upper limit.

The jump

Bitcoin jumps 22.8% in a week, straight toward 90,000

Last week I wrote about a 51,000-55,000 band, a possible decline before continuing higher.

Bitcoin never touched it.

Instead of falling, it rallied 22.8% in a week, from 64,506 to 79,245 dollars.

The market jumped past the floor and went straight for the first resistance watched.

The 90,000-93,000 band was meant as the next level, once Bitcoin finished its job down below.

It's now a few thousand dollars away, without ever passing through the expected decline.

That doesn't mean the lower zone is off the table forever. It just means it didn't happen this week, and price picked the opposite direction.

On the weekly Ichimoku, tenkan crossed above kijun this very week, right as the rally started, on 17 August. A technical pivot, on top of the price move.

This isn't a zone I'm inventing now. On 29 July I flagged a deviation toward 57,000 and said: if it confirms, the next channel is above 78,000. It confirmed.

But the bigger move of the week wasn't on Bitcoin.

The gap

Ethereum climbs 31%, more than Bitcoin

Ethereum rallied 31.4% over the same week, from 1,912 to 2,512 dollars.

More than Bitcoin, for the second week in a row.

The ETH/BTC ratio keeps the direction I wrote about last week. It didn't stop, it accelerated.

The ETH/BTC ratio rose from 0.0296 to 0.0317, another 6.9% in just the past seven days.

What's changing is the speed. The divergence isn't just continuing, it's accelerating.

The clarification

My short isn't on crypto

In a video from 17 August I say, with my usual sense of humor, that I'm selling everything, to go short.

That title sounds like an alarm bell for crypto. It isn't.

Let me say it plainly: the short is on the S&P, not on Bitcoin or Ethereum.

For crypto, my thesis stays warm: the bottom is in, or very close, and August-September are the last months I see any real chance of further decline.

Here, only this matters: it changes nothing in the Bitcoin and Ethereum thesis above.

That was the week: Bitcoin jumped past the plan, Ethereum went even further.

How we're positioned

The allocation stays the one from last week's report: Bitcoin and Ethereum the majority of the portfolio.

We didn't change anything on this move. One week of a strong rally isn't a new reason to buy or sell, if the underlying thesis hasn't changed.

I also had a swing trade on XRP, on the three-day chart: the last dump stopped at equal lows, around $1.03, without a new low, with RSI climbing in a channel of three higher lows. Tight stop under that zone, a measured target of $1.38, with 5x leverage.

Price already blew past the target, at $1.53 today, up 48% from entry. Long-term, I still think XRP stays range-bound until next year, until Bitcoin finishes its final accumulation.

From here, for Bitcoin I expect a consolidation toward the 90,000 zone, then corrections a bit bigger than the current consolidation.
